This event occurs every week Thursday and Friday until Fri Aug 14 2015.

Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront (R3) is the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s unique, interactive early literacy program that provides children from southeast Michigan an opportunity to see live children’s entertainment, hear a story read by a local celebrity reader and receive a free book, as well as a ride on the lovely Cullen Family Carousel.

The Reading on the Riverfront program will take place from July 9 - August 14th on Thursday and Fridays at Rivard Plaza. Each day will have two sessions one at 11:00 and another at 1:15. For families and groups under 10, the program is first come, first served. Groups of over 10 are asked to pre-register.

The R3 program, presented by the GM Foundation and hosted by the Conservancy, stretches six weeks throughout the summer and features readings by local celebrities, as well as business and community leaders.  The program also boasts live and interactive family entertainment, healthy treats, free rides on the Cullen Family Carousel and free books provided by the GM Foundation in partnership with the Detroit Public Library’s “Library on Wheels.”

In the summer of 2014, the fourth year of the program, nearly 4,000 children and their families enjoyed R3 and more than 4,000 free books were distributed to children from across southeastern Michigan. In addition to the books distributed, the program also featured a special family lending library with more than 200 selections that children and their families could check out and read along the riverfront during their visit.

The Conservancy thanks the General Motors Foundation for the financial support for this program and for helping share the joy of reading with children and families in the community.

Groups of more than 10 must pre-register for the program. Please click the group registration button below to register your group.  Your group reservation is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation email from the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy.
