Bring your family out for a FREE afternoon of art and exercise with the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. Grab your bikes, scooters, rollerblades, strollers or anything with non-motorized wheels and join us for a wheeled family-friendly tour of DIA Inside |Out on the riverfront. Inside|Out is a program through the Detroit Institute of Arts that brings high-quality reproductions of masterpieces from the DIA’s collection to outdoor venues throughout the metro Detroit.

Movie in the Park- The Lego Movie

Join the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Park it for a Movie in the Park on Thursday, August 21st. We’ll be screening the popular film “Lego Movie” and will have plenty of family friendly activities including live entertainment and games. So grab your family, pack a picnic and park it!

The event will begin at 6:00 pm, and the movie will start at 8:15 pm.

Film will take place east of the hill in Milliken State Park and Harbor. Free Parking is available at Rivard Plaza.

Detroit’s historic Eastern Market is excited to announce a new market day and a daring departure from our classic Farmers Market Faire: The Sunday Street Market will feature local items such as home goods, art, jewelry, clothing, Michigan-made products, antiques, and furniture, just to name a few. A limited number of produce and flower vendors will also be on hand.

If you’re looking for an alternative shopping experience to what you find at big-box stores or shopping malls, than this Market Day is for you!

For over a century, Eastern Market has been pivotal in connecting the citizens of Metro Detroit with farm fresh food and plants while revolutionizing the local food systems in the region. Sunday Street Market seeks to accomplish a similar mission for non-food goods.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday starting June 1^st and running through September 28^th, visitors to Eastern Market will find Shed 2 filled with local products and find Shed 3 featuring weekly entertainment activities. Food trucks will also be present.

Eastern Market Corporation began Detroit Eastern Market Tuesdays in the summer of 2011. "Tuesdays" feature a sampling our historic Market experience through the inclusion of farmers, flowers, produce dealers, specialty products, and prepared-food vendors.

"Tuesdays" are a weekly community celebration full of special events highlighting the agricultural, social, culinary, and artistic treasures of our city, region, and state.

For 2014 we are happy to announce the season will run from June 17-October 28, with an additional Thanksgiving Market on November 25. The market hours are 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

"Tuesdays" offer shoppers many of the same convenient services as our Saturday Market, including the Eastern Market Bridge Card Program, Double Up Food Bucks, educational events, culinary demonstrations, community exercise classes, and non-profit outreach opportunities.

Belle Isle Stewardship Day

The Environmental and Conservation section of the Island Stewardship Committee headed by Mebby Pearson offer Stewardship Saturdays where volunteers can help remove invasive plant species from the island.

The purpose of this task is the preservation of Belle Isle’s old growth forest by pinpointing invasive plants such as honeysuckle and privet, the primary invaders. These plants do not provide the proper nutrition for migratory birds. It’s sort of like providing “junk food” for birds. Plants like these create monocultures in the forest understory, crowding out native plants that are nutritious for birds. Ecological balance is our prime concern.

Please join us in doing work that is so needed in Belle Isle’s natural areas. It’s a small commitment; the work is not taxing; and safety is a priority. We start at 9 a.m. and end at 12 noon. Please no children under age six. All children must be supervised by an adult. Please contact the Nature Zoo for activities for small children.
