Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront (R3) is the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s unique, interactive early literacy program.

With the generous support of General Motors, R3 stretches six weeks throughout the summer and features readings by local celebrities, as well as business and community leaders.  The program also boasts live and interactive family entertainment and free books sponsored by Priority Health in partnership with the Detroit Public Library’s “Library on Wheels.”

Like last year, the program will take place at Gabriel Richard Park — a large riverfront oasis located off of Jefferson Avenue at the foot of the Belle Isle Bridge.

This summer we are excited to welcome back We Shall Read as a partner at Reading and Rhythm on the Riverfront. We Shall Read is a local non-profit on a mission to equip caregivers with simple and engaging tools to help improve their child's reading. Be sure to check out their free and fun resources at their table at Reading and Rhythm on the Riverfront this summer.

The 2025 program will run July 10 - August 15 with sessions taking place on Thursdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Each session lasts approx. 45 minutes. Participants must participate in the session to receive a free book. Pre-registration is required.
