Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront (R3) is the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s unique, interactive early literacy program.

With support from General Motors, R3 stretches six weeks throughout the summer and features readings by local celebrities, as well as business and community leaders.  The program also boasts live and interactive family entertainment, a healthy snack provided by the YMCA and free books provided by General Motors in partnership with the Detroit Public Library’s “Library on Wheels.”

Like last year, the program will take place at Gabriel Richard Park — a large riverfront oasis located off of Jefferson Avenue. at the foot of the Belle Isle Bridge. Additionally, state recommended COVID-19 protocols will be implemented if necessary to protect our visitors, volunteers, and staff.

The Conservancy thanks General Motors for the financial support for this program and for helping share the joy of reading with children and families in the community.

The 2023 program will run July 6 - August 11 with sessions taking place on Thursdays and Fridays at 10 AM and 11:30 AM. Each session lasts about 45 minutes. Participants must participate in the session to receive a free book. Pre-registration is required. Registration will open in June and link will be posted here.
