October 15, 2014 [DETROIT]- The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy celebrated the official grand opening of the West RiverWalk on October 4 with an afternoon featuring live entertainment, food trucks, a beer garden and family activities.

Entertainment was as eclectic as it was electrifying with performances by youth dance and mariachi groups from southwest Detroit and local jazz and rhythm & blues acts.  A trio of local brews from Atwater Brewery provided guests with a sampling of Detroit’s finest beer, while food trucks representing some of Metro Detroit’s most popular mobile eateries offered a mix of tasty fare.

Children’s activities included several bounce houses, arts and crafts, lawn games and chalk art. Additionally, the Michigan DNR conducted a clinic to teach participants how to fish and displayed a selection of hides from animals that are native to Michigan. 

The 20-acre West RiverWalk property became accessible to the public in mid-July and features an extra wide riverfront path to accommodate visitors.  Since then, its wide-open expanses of green space have hosted countless pick-up games of soccer, football and other outdoor activities.  In August, the site was host to the “Kem Presents Mack and Third 2014:  A Call to Service” concert that drew 20,000 fans while raising funds for homelessness.
