Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront
Thursday, Jul 08, 2021 - 10:00am to 12:30pm
This event occurs every week Thursday until Thu Aug 12 2021.
Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront (R3) is the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s unique, interactive early literacy program that provides children from southeast Michigan an opportunity to see live children’s entertainment, hear a story read by a storyteller or local community leader and receive a free book.
Reading and Rhythm on the Riverfront will take place at Gabriel Richard Park, a large riverfront oasis, which allows families and children to physically distance. The music and storytelling portion of the program will take place live and be projected on an outdoor screen and the celebrity reader portion will be prerecorded.
All families and groups must pre-register.
The R3 program presented by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, with support from General Motors, stretches six weeks throughout the summer and features readings by local celebrities, as well as business and community leaders. The program also boasts live and interactive family entertainment, a healthy snack and free books provided by General Motors in partnership with the Detroit Public Library’s “Library on Wheels.”
The Conservancy thanks General Motors for the financial support for this program and for helping share the joy of reading with children and families in the community.
The 2021 program will run July 8 - August 13 with sessions taking place on Thursdays and Fridays at 10 AM and 11:30 AM. Each session lasts about 45 minutes. Participants must participate in the session to receive a free book. Pre-registration is required and opens one week prior to each session.
When participating in the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy's programs or visiting the Detroit Riverfront, please remember to:
1. Stay home if you aren't feeling well.
2. Maintain a distance of at least six feet from others.
3. Wear a mask or face covering if possible, including in crowded outdoor areas.
