Framework Plan Updates

Framework Plan Updates

Public engagement is an essential element in organizing each step of the planning process. As we continue to work together with the community, we will continuously share with you news and updates on the project.

03.01.2017 East Riverfront Public Meeting

In 2016, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy reached out to community members and asked them to dream about the future of the East Riverfront.   We worked in partnership with the City of Detroit Planning Department,  Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and consultants from Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) to craft a framework vision for the future of the East Riverfront district.

You are invited to come learn how this input has been incorporated into the East Riverfront Framework Plan. The public presentation will be held on Wednesday March 1st, 2017 from 6-8pm at the Outdoor Adventure Center located at 1801 Atwater St. Detroit, MI 48207.

09.21.2016 East Riverfront Framework Plan Update

At our last meeting and tour …

On Tuesday, July 13, at our fourth community meeting, our team shared some design initial concepts.  These ideas for reimagining the East Riverfront were based in large part on what you’ve told us you want to see as the project unfolds and in the years ahead. On August 4, we continued the visioning process by exploring storm water management and green infrastructure projects around the city and along the Detroit River.  (It was a great night to be out on the river!)

 What’s happening now …?

Our team is laser focused on completing an actionable framework for transforming Detroit’s international riverfront into a beautiful, exciting, safe, accessible world-class gather place for all.  To make this happen we’ve been working through a number of key tasks.  They range widely -- from finding ways to create a more safe, walkable environment for pedestrians along Jefferson Avenue to creating final design concepts and recommendations for short-term improvement projects.  We expect to complete the final framework document within the next month and look forward to sharing it with you.

Please continue to follow the website for updates and details about the final community meeting …

Based on comments from the community, we've refined our initial landscape and neighborhood design concepts for the East Riverfront.  Come see how your ideas are shaping the vision and give us more input.   We will also discuss how re-imagining the I-375 freeway might fit into a revitalized East Riverfront.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 12 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Outdoor Adventure Center, 1801 Atwater.

06.16.2016 Community Workshop #3
