Riverfront Herbal Walk Series

Join us at Cullen Plaza for a short and easy herbal walk along the scenic Detroit Riverfront, where attendees of all ages will learn from local herbalists how to identify and engage with plants. Each session includes a hands-on activity, offering participants a unique herbal creation to take home and enjoy.

Your Guides: Najah & Sterling

Founded by Najah and Sterling, The Herbal Basket blends urban herbalism, land stewardship, and community education with handcrafted, value-added botanical goods. Rooted in Detroit, they grow and forage many of their ingredients, curate seasonal herbal boxes, and create space for fellow herbalists, growers, and makers to share their products, stories, and craft with a wider community.

Your Guide: Carmen Malis King

Carmen Malis King is a Detroit-rooted writer, community herbalist, and National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She has been practicing herbalism for over 15 years, guided by connecting with plants from the Great Lakes bioregion and by cultural knowledge from her Central American maternal lineage.

Your Guide: Lottie V. Spady

Lottie V. Spady , Community Educator, Wellness Media Maker, and Practicing Herbalist is the founder of Earthseed Detroit.  Founded in 2014, Earthseed Detroit evolved from fifteen years in Detroit activism, non-profit management, and program direction with workshop facilitation working specifically with children, teens and adults to promote, educate, and empower communities at the intersections of media justice, food justice, environmental justice, community health, and civic engagement. Lottie currently teaches “Do It Yourself Community Health” classes in seasonal plant identification, herbal formulations, and medicine making. Other courses include  herbs and tarot and self-development through vision collage. She also holds sacred space for nature based healing retreat work, camping/glamping, outdoor education and botanical studies in rural Michigan.
