Detroit River Pollinator Project BioBlitz

Sep 16, 2020 - 12:00am to Sep 30, 2020 - 12:00am

Join Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center, Detroit Zoological Society, Belle Isle Conservancy, and parks throughout the country for the Parks for Pollinators Virtual BioBlitz!

What's a BioBlitz? The Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz is an event where community members work with park staff to create a snapshot of the variety of wildlife that can be found in Milliken State Park, Belle Isle State Park, Gabriel Richard Park and along the Dequindre Cut. This information will help us understand how we can better protect pollinators and other important wildlife in our community.

Where? Milliken State Park, Belle Isle State Park, Gabriel Richard Park and along the Dequindre Cut.

When? September 16 - September 30, 2020. Virtual meetings for additional instruction will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15; Thursday, Sept. 24; and Thursday, Oct. 1.

Want to participate? It is easy to participate by making observations on your own using the iNaturalist app. With the iNaturalist app, you just take a picture of a pollinator (bee, butterfly, bat, etc.) or pollinator-friendly plant, and the community will help identify the species. Any observation you make in the destined parks will count during our event. If you are familiar with citizen science projects, you can continue your participation on this iNaturalist link and start collecting data between Sept. 16 - 30.

This BioBlitz event was made possible by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation. You can learn more about the Parks for Pollinators initative here
