Why Give

The new Detroit Riverfront is amazingly beautiful every season of the year. It is wonderful to see the community embrace the new Riverfront. Cyclists touring the Riverfront and its adjoining neighborhoods, sightseers watching boats gliding down the river, community groups walking along the RiverWalk, children riding on the carousel, and fishermen trying their luck at their favorite fishing spot.

It is hard to believe that up until a few short years ago, we didn't have this wonderful RiverWalk and all it offers. Fortunately for all of us, some visionary leaders saw the potential for improving our city, region and quality of life and formed the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. They tasked the organization with the mission of creating and permanently operating and maintaining the RiverWalk and many of the parks and green spaces along the Detroit River. Once complete, there will be more than five miles of RiverWalk from the Ambassador Bridge to the MacArthur Bridge at Belle Isle.

The RiverWalk is a free and accessible attraction for our entire community. When you visit other parks or attractions like a zoo or botanical gardens, you pay an admission fee. There are no fees to experience the beauty and safety of the Riverfront. It is here for everyone to enjoy.

With your help we can continue to enhance the beauty of the RiverWalk and the value it adds to our community.

Ways to Give

There are many ways you can support the Conservancy's work and be a part of the historic development of the Riverfront.

Each year the annual campaign seeks to grow the base of support for the operations, maintenance and security of the properties controlled by the Conservancy including the RiverWalk and the Dequindre Cut.

You can demonstrate your support by

  • becoming a member of the Friends of the Conservancy
  • renewing your membership annually
  • buying an engraved brick or commemorative bench
  • joining the RiverWalk Leadership Society
  • securing a matching gift
  • making a memorial or honorary gift for a loved one or colleague

Many corporations and foundations also invest in the future of Detroit and the quality of life for the city and the region through annual programs and through the capital and endowment campaigns.

Individuals might also consider supporting the Conservancy through a Legacy Gift from your estate. You can invest in the future of the Riverfront by designating future assets to capital and endowment programs.

With your gift to the Conservancy you will be keeping our beautiful Riverfront clean, safe and accessible while supporting the continued transformation of our city and our region.
