About This Park
Gabriel Richard Park was unveiled in 2007 following a significant transformation led by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.
Located at the easternmost point of the Riverwalk, the park showcases a beautiful portion of the Detroit Riverfront, including lush landscaping, a whimsical fountain, butterfly gardens, a contemplative labyrinth, and fishing outlooks.
The park is named after Father Gabriel Richard, a French Roman Catholic priest who was an important figure in the early history of Detroit. One of the unique features of Gabriel Richard Park is the birding station, which includes four wildlife-spotting scopes, two of which are universally accessible, and an interpretive panel identifying various birds that can be found along the riverfront.
Gabriel Richard Park is now connected to the rest of the Riverwalk via the East Riverwalk, which stretches under the MacArthur Bridge to Belle Isle and along the riverfront to Mt. Elliott Park.
