Sasson Soffer (1925-2009)

Sasson Soffer, an Iraqi-born New York artist, was a protégé of the abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko. In the ‘50s and early ‘60s Soffer was known for his abstract paintings; however in 1963 he shifted his interest to focus on three-dimensional works, particularly large public sculptures. His art is represented in major museums and institutions throughout the world.

Midmiem was inspired by "organic forms observed by the many elements in nature." Its graceful curves and orderly balance appear deceptively serene from the front, but when viewed from the side it is a study in motion.
