Rivard Plaza Etiquette

Due to the increasing popularity of the Detroit RiverWalk, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy suggests the following guidelines and etiquette for RiverWalk guests. Visitors are encouraged to use common sense and courtesy. Below are some general guidelines and common sense practices that, if followed will ensure an enjoyable RiverWalk experience for everyone.
Everyone
- Be respectful of the RiverWalk property, throw all trash in waste baskets provided along the path- this includes cigarette butts and gum
- Be sensitive to area plant and wildlife-stay on existing paths, don't trample flowers or shrubby
- When in a group, or by yourself, if you stop, avoid blocking the path for others to pass in both directions
- Plan ahead, know your equipment and carry gear for changing weather conditions
- Be respectful of other RiverWalk guests around you, remember this is a family-friendly environment
Bikes and Roller Blades
- Always look in front and behind you before you change positions
- Be courteous and announce when you are passing on the left or right of other guests
- Wear a helmet and proper protection
- Be conscious of your speed, especially when passing others
Pets
- Keep pets on leashes and be prepared to clean up after them
- Remove pets from the area if the begin to fight or bother other animals or guests
- Pet owners must remain with pets at ALL times
- Holes dug by dogs must be filled in by their owner
- All pets should be licensed (with tags and collar on) and vaccinated
We encourage these guidelines for your safety and enjoyment of the RiverWalk. Please respect these rules so we may ensure everyone enjoys everything the RiverWalk has to offer- and so that we can be certain the RiverWalk remains a safe and fun environment for many years to come!
